CalPERS Blue Shield HMO Members |
On
May 19, 2004, the CalPERS Board of Administration voted to
restrict its provider network for members with Blue Shield HMO
coverage starting in 2005. Sutter Health believes the decision by CalPERS to remove three Sutter Health-affiliated medical foundations and 12 hospitals was ill-advised, and will undoubtedly cause considerable disruption and inconvenience for the approximately 80,000 CalPERS members who are cared for by Sutter Health physicians and hospitals. It is unfortunate that CalPERS took this unprecedented action despite Sutter Healthfs commitment to help hold the line on health care cost increases. Sutter Health made a generous offer that would have reduced CalPERSf projected health care costs while preserving member access to our entire network of doctors and hospitals. Sutter Health was led to believe by CalPERS staff that our offer achieved their cost-savings parameters. Unfortunately, CalPERS decided to drop a number of Sutter Health providers despite our commitments. The following Sutter Health hospitals and physician organizations will NOT be part of the CalPERS Blue Shield HMO provider network. San Joaquin Valley Area
